Question
Does UL certify (list) Photovoltaic (PV) module tracker devices? What about grounding lugs for PV modules? Where can I find this information?
Answer
Yes, UL does certify PV module trackers under the product category Photovoltaic Solar Trackers (QIKA), located on page 327 in the 2012 UL White Book. Grounding lugs for PV modules are certified under the product category Mounting Systems, Mounting Devices, Clamping Devices & Ground Lugs for Use with Photovoltaic Modules & Panels (QIMS), located on page 329 in the 2012 UL White Book. These new product categories as well as the following photovoltaic equipment categories have been added to the 2012 UL White Book. The new categories are:
- Flat-plate, Low-concentration Photovoltaic Modules & Panels (QHZU)
- Photovoltaic DC Arc-fault Circuit Protection (QIDC)
- Photovoltaic Modules & Panels with System Voltage Ratings Over 600 Volts (QIIA)
- Switches, Open Type for Use in Photovoltaic Systems (WHVA)
These categories can be found in a list of all Photovoltaic Power System product categories on page 34 in the 2012 UL White Book. One other product category that was omitted from the list is Distributed Generation Wiring Systems and Harnesses, (QHZS), located on page 323 in the 2012 UL White Book.
Access the Guide Information and Certifications for all these categories on UL’s Online Certification Directory at www.ul.com/database and enter the 4 letter category code at the category code search field.
