Adoptions of the 2017 NEC

Puerto Rico Adopts the 2017 NEC Effective November 15, 2018

The Puerto Rico Oficina de Gerencia de Permisos (OGPE) has adopted the Código de Construcción de Puerto Rico 2018 with an effective date of November 15, 2018. All construction started after this date must comply with the 2018 editions of the International Building Code (IBC), International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), International Existing Building Code (IEBC), International Fire Code (IFC), International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC), International Mechanical Code (IMC), International Plumbing Code (IPC), International Private Sewage Disposal Code (IPSDC), International Residential Code (IRC), and International Swimming Pool and Spa Code (ISPSC). The 2017 edition of the NFPA 70, National Electrical Code and the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority’s Reglamento Complementario al Código Eléctrico Nacional (Complementary Code) shall govern the design, construction, erection and installation of the electrical components, appliances, equipment and systems used in buildings and structures covered by Código de Construcción de Puerto Rico 2018.
