Vision 2021 – Updates and Resolutions

Jim Rohn stated, “There are two ways to face the future. One way is with apprehension; the other is with anticipation.” 2020 is gearing up to be another exciting and productive year for our Association, and we’re looking forward to it with great anticipation.

In 2016, we developed a five-year strategic plan called Vision 2021. The plan provided the framework to position our Association for growth and to continue to be the leaders in the electrical industry. A number of key initiatives identified in the plan have now been completed. These include the completion of a much needed International Office renovation, the creation of new international bylaws, and the development of new model bylaws (to be used by our sections, chapters, and divisions) that provide greater opportunities for members to participate and have stronger voices. We’ve also developed new policies, and revisions to a number of existing policies that govern our Association, that will help better align us with industry best practices and legal requirements.

We finished the final implementation of a new membership structure that will provide greater member participation at all levels within our Association. We also expanded our social media communications and marketing efforts to increase our brand awareness.

A new era for IAEI began in 2019 as the Board of Directors approved a new governance model that had been in development for the past several years. Over the next five years, there will be a transition from the current Board model to the new Board governance model. Some of the significant changes include terms limits, a change from International President to Chairman of the Board, and openings for non-enforcer Directors positions. The Board is to be commended for their foresight in making changes to international bylaws and the governance structure, which will provide greater diversity on the Board.

As I mentioned, 2020 is gearing up to be another busy and exciting year for our Association. We will continue to work on initiatives identified in our Vision 2021 Strategic Plan with a focus on increasing membership; working with our chapters and divisions to become best in class; expanding internationally with the formation of new chapters; increasing our social media presence; and supporting the Code development and adoption process.

We are looking forward to 2020 and beyond in supporting our members and by providing quality educational materials and training.

All of us at IAEI wish you all the best in 2020 and with great anticipation for a happy and prosperous New Year.
